God's Callings Are His Enablements

Am I capable of doing the task to which God has called me? Am I prepared enough? Do I have the necessary ability? Will I fail in my mission?

Perhaps many of us have asked ourselves these questions as we embark on a new ministry or task in Christian service and/or in the secular work force. We trust God, but doubts enter as to our ability to carry out that which God has given us to do.

Reading in Exodus this week, I found encouraging verses that assure me that if God has called me to a certain task, He sees within me the capability to fulfill it through the power of His Holy Spirit.

As God gave Moses instructions concerning the building of the tabernacle, He stated that He had enabled certain people for certain tasks.

“You shall speak to all the skillful, whom I have filled with a spirit of skill that they make Aaron’s garments to consecrate him for my priesthood.” Exodus 28:3

“I have called by name Bezalel…and I have filled him with the Spirit of God, with ability and intelligence…to devise artistic designs…I have appointed with him Oholiab…And I have given to all able men ability that they may make all that I have commanded you.” Exodus 31: 1-6

Exodus 35:34 tells us that God also inspired these two men to teach their skills to others. That is mentoring and discipleship in action!

Multiple scriptures remind us that God is able to work in and through us to complete any task to which He calls us. (See Psalm 57:2; Psalm 138:8; Romans 12: 3-5; I Corinthians 12:18; I Peter 4:10,11)

Thanks be to God for this assurance that our omniscient, omnipotent Heavenly Father planned tasks for us while we were “still in the womb,” and He will enable us to fulfill them! (Jeremiah 1:5)
